girlIn early 2015 and after nearly 3 years of applying we were awarded BIG Lottery funding for a three year Hygiene Project which will include providing every house in the village with a latrine type toilet. Prior to this no house had one! We are also going to be able to provide up to 150 toilets in surrounding villages

The project will be headed up by the Togolese Red Cross who will provide all the training modules and will include training up the villagers to deliver some of the later modules themselves. There are 12 different topics to be given to all the women and children in the village in addition to up to 100 women from surrounding villages.

In terms of the toilets, having never had one before, choosing which type to have proved to be slightly problematical despite our best efforts. So in an effort to help we took a bus load of people from Agome - Svah to another village - many miles away- to see what toilets they have had installed as overseen by the Red Cross.

As always we had to raise a sizeable amount of money ourselves but much to our delight the T and J Meyers Family foundation stepped in to help out. A big and sincere thank you to them - and to the BIG Lottery of course!

The project is progressing and improving all the time. We have now completed all 150 toilets in the 4 villages involved.

We are now in year 5 with a 6th being planned. The current years trainging includes dealing with domestic abuse, teenagers! and setting up micro finance

Thank you to everyone involved in this life changing and complex project.
